SUMMIT One Vanderbilt sits on the top floors of One Vanderbilt, a 1,401-foot tower and the tallest commercial skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan.

The team behind it skipped the usual observation-deck formula. Instead, interior designer Snøhetta and artist Kenzo Digital built a sequence of mirrored, light-filled rooms across three floors, spaces that change depending on how people move through them rather than just framing a view.

The visit moves through stages. It opens with the mirrored halls of Transcendence, disorienting by design, then moves into the interactive installations Affinity and Unity, a room built by Yayoi Kusama, and the open-air Levitation ledges, suspended more than 1,100 feet above Madison Avenue. It ends on Ascent, a glass-bottomed elevator that runs on one of the tallest rack-and-pinion systems anywhere.
